PROBLEM OF THE MONTH ANSWER
ANSWER:
LINES - perpendicular, intersecting, parallel, skew
ANGLES-congruent, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, complementary,
supplementary, acute, obtuse, right, adjacent,
vertical.
To the teacher:
This activity may seem too easy. However, many of us who teach middle school find
too many students using the above words incorrectly. Some students use the word "perpendicular"
to refer to the right angle. They get lines and angle terminology confused.
Are we spending enough time teaching vocabulary? Vocabulary (and spelling) is important.
How else will students read and write about mathematics?
