Terri's Guidelines for Using the Internet With Your Class

1. Prepare a handout with the URL and make sure all your links work and don’t
take too long to load.

2. Make sure the network is up before you go to the computer room.

3. Introduce the lesson in the classroom and have students go through your
handout before you go into the computer room. That’s the time to review
expectations and goals.

4. Decide ahead of time which students will be working together.

5. Use a device like the green/red cups (see above) for students to signal
when they need help instead of raising hands and calling out for you. Students
put the red side up when they need help and keep the green side up when they
don't need help.

6. Make sure that all students get a chance to use the computer. You might want to
have each student do a different task.

7. If you need students to listen to you while you are in the computer room, ask
them to take their hands off the computer, turn around and face you.

8. Make sure to check under GO to see if students have deviated from the task.

9. Make sure your lesson is structured and meaningful.

10. Make sure to follow up and discuss findings when back in the classroom.
